Customer research inside Claude and ChatGPT with an MCP connector
Comment Downloader is a remote MCP server that lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants collect real comments and reviews and turn them into pains, objections, angles and hooks. You ask in plain words, and every finding comes back with the quote behind it.

What MCP is
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools on another service.
Instead of copying comments into a chat, you add a connector once. The assistant then sees a list of tools, such as "collect the reviews of this URL" or "write the report for this collection", and calls them when your question needs them. Comment Downloader's server uses Streamable HTTP and OAuth, so you sign in with Google and never paste an API key. The address is https://app.commentdownloader.com/mcp and connecting is free.
How to connect it
Add one URL as a custom connector, then sign in with Google using the same account as your extension.
- Claude (claude.ai or desktop): Customize, Connectors, Add custom connector, name it Comment Downloader, paste the URL, then sign in.
- Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http commentdownloader https://app.commentdownloader.com/mcp, then/mcpand sign in. - ChatGPT: Settings, Apps (or Plugins), add a custom MCP server with the URL and OAuth. Some plans need developer mode.
- Cursor: add
{"mcpServers":{"commentdownloader":{"url":"https://app.commentdownloader.com/mcp"}}}to~/.cursor/mcp.jsonand sign in when asked. - Perplexity, Grok, Le Chat: add a custom connector with the same URL and complete the sign-in.
An AI agent can also do this for you: point it at commentdownloader.com/llms.txt and ask it to connect Comment Downloader.
The tools your assistant gets
The connector exposes 26 tools for collecting, reporting, listening and exporting.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
collect | Collects the comments or reviews of one URL |

discover_threads | Finds threads on Reddit, YouTube, Hacker News, Stack Exchange, Trustpilot or a YouTube channel |
find_creators, find_products, find_hooks, get_transcript | Creators in a niche, products that sell, opening lines of top TikToks, YouTube transcripts |
read_ad, top_advertisers | Competitor Meta ads |

create_radar, list_radar_posts, set_radar_post_status | Reddit Radar: fit score and a draft reply you post yourself |
search_collections, save_quote, list_saved | Search everything collected and keep a swipe file |
get_collection, list_collections, export_collection, list_brands | Read and export collections |
start_instagram_followers, get_instagram_followers | Instagram followers export |
Using it as a Reddit MCP
For Reddit, the assistant finds threads with discover_threads and collects them in your own Chrome through the extension, not through the Reddit API.
That means every comment in a thread, including "load more" replies, with upvotes. You can then ask for one report across several threads, set listening phrases for new mentions, or run Reddit Radar to find threads where your product fits. Radar drafts a reply; you read it and post it yourself. More on the Reddit comment scraper page.
Four prompts to try
Ask in plain words and include a URL when you have one.
- Collect the reviews of this Amazon product and give me 5 ad angles: [url]
- Research "standing desk back pain" on Reddit and tell me what to test first.
- Write 10 hooks from this TikTok's comments, in their words: [url]
- Compare my app's Google Play reviews with my competitor's and list the objections only they get.
Limits to know
Some sources need the free Chrome extension and an open Chrome window.
- Collected on the server without the extension: Hacker News, Stack Overflow and Stack Exchange, App Store, Google Play, Steam, Bluesky, Mastodon, Lemmy, DEV Community, Discourse forums and YouTube comments.
- Amazon, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Trustpilot, Google Maps, Yelp and others are collected in your own Chrome, where you stay signed in. Install the extension and press "Allow sites for AI tasks" once. Paid plans can collect these on the server instead.
- Server collection and reports beyond your monthly allowance use credits. A topic research run costs 10 credits. See pricing.
- Custom connectors in ChatGPT depend on your ChatGPT plan.
- Collections used from an assistant are kept on the server for 7 days so the assistant can read them.
Questions
What is the Comment Downloader MCP server URL?
https://app.commentdownloader.com/mcp. It uses Streamable HTTP and OAuth with Google sign-in, and it is free to connect.
Does it work in ChatGPT as well as Claude?
Yes. Add it as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT settings. Some ChatGPT plans need developer mode for custom connectors. It also works in Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity, Grok and Le Chat.
Is this a Reddit MCP?
It covers Reddit among 31 sources. The assistant can find Reddit threads, collect every comment in your own Chrome through the extension, and write a report. It does not use the Reddit API.
Do I need Chrome open?
For sources like Amazon, Reddit, TikTok and Instagram, yes, because the extension collects them in your browser. Sources like the App Store, Google Play, Hacker News and YouTube comments are collected on the server without it.
