An ExportComments alternative for ad research

ExportComments and Comment Downloader both export public comments to a file, but they are built for different jobs. ExportComments is a server-side exporter with large per-export limits and scheduling, while Comment Downloader collects in your own Chrome and turns the comments into an AI report where every finding links to its quote.

The short answer

Pick ExportComments if you need big raw exports, scheduled exports or platforms like Discord, Twitch and LinkedIn; pick Comment Downloader if you want unlimited free collecting and a report of pains, objections and ad angles from the comments.

  • ExportComments runs the export on its server after you paste a URL. Its Chrome extension is optional and only passes your login session for content that needs it.
  • Comment Downloader reads the page in your own Chrome with a free extension. Paid plans add collection on its server without the extension.
  • Both have an MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT.

Side by side

The main differences are the free limits, the sources and whether the tool writes the analysis for you.

Where ExportComments is the better choice

ExportComments is stronger when the job is a large raw export rather than research.

  • Most exports need no extension at all. You paste a link on the website and download the file.
  • It covers Discord, Twitch, LinkedIn and VKontakte, which Comment Downloader does not list.
  • Per-export limits are stated clearly, up to 250,000 results on Business.
  • Scheduled exports run hourly, daily, weekly or monthly, with custom cron on Business.
  • It has a giveaway picker built in, and a $30 three-day pass if you only need one big export.

Where Comment Downloader is the better choice

Comment Downloader is stronger when you want to know what the comments mean for your ads.

  • Collecting in your own browser is free and unlimited on every plan, so there is no 100-result cap on the free plan.
  • The report counts what people repeat and ranks pains, objections and desires, with every line linked to the quote and the post it came from. See voice of customer analysis for ad copy for the method.
  • It reads review sources that matter for products and apps: App Store, Google Play, G2, Capterra, Yelp, Google Maps, Walmart and Steam.
  • It also reads competitor Meta ads, finds Reddit threads and runs keyword listening.

Using either tool inside Claude or ChatGPT

Both tools offer a remote MCP connector, so you can ask for an export in plain words inside your assistant.

The ExportComments connector address is https://mcp.exportcomments.com/mcp. The Comment Downloader address is https://app.commentdownloader.com/mcp, free to connect with Google sign-in. With Comment Downloader, the assistant asks your extension to collect sources like Amazon, Reddit and TikTok in your own Chrome, so Chrome needs to be open. Setup steps per assistant are on the Claude MCP page.

Account safety and limits

No comment tool can promise that an account is free of risk.

Comment Downloader reads one page at a time, only when you start it, with your own session. Meta does not allow automated collection, so treat Facebook and Instagram with care whichever tool you use. Some Comment Downloader sources are in beta (Etsy, eBay, Tripadvisor, Quora and X) and read only what the open page shows, usually the first page. Full plan details are on the pricing page.
